Learning contents and pedagogy

ANALYSIS

Over the past, Politecnico di Torino has developed an educational programme based on a sound cultural structure and a rigorous and deep analysis of the taught disciplines. Today, teaching is delivered according to a variety of methodologies, including frontal teaching, experiential learning (e.g. ateliers, workshops, project work, laboratories, etc.) and other educational methods (e.g. student teams, study visits, etc.). Furthermore, Politecnico di Torino aims to explore innovative educational approaches and review our educational contents and development of new pedagogical methods, without jeopardizing its traditional sound educational framework.

DECISIONS

  • Politecnico di Torino is going to establish a Learning Centre and a Teaching Lab with the aim of providing spaces for interactive team-based teaching and learning to share experiences, foster new experimentations, spread best practices and train our lecturers
  • New educational models will pave the way for new educational models focused on an ever more interactive relationship between lecturers and students by experimenting a progressive transformation of frontal teaching into experiential learning; this teaching model will count on the support of competent teaching assistants and of our alumni community, by also including design-oriented activities, seminars and technical visits
  • Design competencies must be rediscovered through project-based activities to guide students from the traditional problem solving to a problem setting approach by developing the necessary skills, also through the enhancement of the value of the student teams
  • Learning contents will enlarged towards human and social sciences, as well as to legal and managerial skills
  • Learning contents will be partially reviewed so that students can develop a better understanding of the impact of technologies on business, society, and environment
  • Development of sound soft skills
  • Fostering international student mobility
