The demand for education

ANALYSIS

  • Very negative demographic trend in Italy
  • Italy ranks in the last positions of the OECD rankings for educational attainment
  • Focus on the stronger employability of graduates who attain engineering degrees, with particular attention on orientation and professional Bachelor’s degree programmes to assure high success rates and to avoid that students not receiving an appropriate orientation could choose these studies without having an adequate aptitude.
  • Lack of high-educated professionals (according to recent surveys, nearly 300,000 highly qualified professionals will be required by Italian companies over the next five years). The educational offer of Italian Higher Technical Institutes is currently insufficient, as well.
  • Growing demand for high-quality university education coming from “emerging countries” and from other western countries. In this regard, Politecnico di Torino intends to pursue a strong international recruitment strategy, especially for Master’s degree programmes.

DECISIONS

  • The current number of enrolments at the first year will be kept despite the high student-to-faculty ratio, until more lecturers and teaching facilities will be available
  • Introduction of new professional degree programmes
  • Careful selection of target Countries towards a strong international recruitment initiatives
  • Improvement of our communication by providing better access to the contents of the ”Portale della Didattica - Teaching Portal web area” also for external users (current and perspective students, lectures, companies and external bodies)
